Gateway Arch National Park
St. Louis and the Gateway Arch are both referred to as the "Gateway to the West." The arch is a symbol of Thomas Jefferson’s vision of building a unified continental nation and St. Louis’ role as a confluence and gateway to the American West during the 1800's. The park also has a museum. The Arch is 630 feet (192 meters) tall and 630 feet wide from leg to leg at ground level. The building was completed on October 28, 1965.
