Jewish genealogical and historical resources at St. Louis County Library

Introduction to Jewish Genealogy

St. Louis, Missouri, is home to over 60,000 Jewish Americans. They trace their ancestry back through Germanic Europe, Slavic Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Mediterranean basin. St. Louis has been home to dozens of synagogues of all denominations: Reform, Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist, Renewal, and non-denominational, including the oldest synagogue west of the Mississippi River.
