The following finding aid refers to materials found in the collections of History & Genealogy at St. Louis County Library.

Actions include individual battles, sieges, raids, skirmishes and other conflicts.   In many cases, actions have multiple names.  The Battle of Monroe's Crossroads is also known as The Battle of Fayetteville Road and Kilpatrick's Shirttail Skedaddle.  Every effort has been made to include entries for each alternate name.  Names have been abbreviated to "Monroe's Crossroads".

CWSAC Campaigns are based on summaries developed by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission (CWSAC) as part of the American Battlefield Protection Program established within the United States National Park Service.

State is the location where action transpired. If it occured in multiple states, multiple entries have been created.
