The Attorney General serves as the chief legal officer of the State of Missouri as mandated by our Constitution. The Attorney General is elected by Missouri voters, serves a four-year term, and is not subject to constitutional term limits.The Attorney General’s Office represents and provides legal advice to most state agencies; defends challenges to the validity of state laws; enforces civil law, including consumer protection and environmental laws; defends the State’s interest in civil actions, including bankruptcies, workers’ compensation claims, professional licensing cases, and habeas corpus actions filed by state and federal inmates; and serves as a special prosecutor in criminal cases when appointed. In addition, the Office handles all appeals statewide from felony convictions.

The Census Bureau's State Data Center Program celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2018. A network of more than 1,700 agencies nationwide, this program has provided access and education on Census Bureau products as well as other statistical resources to millions of data users. Administered at the state level, each state has a network of affiliates that serve their constituents — be they government, business, not-for-profits, educators, or anyone in need of economic and demographic data. This web site is here to serve that network, providing resources and information to assist all of us in our work with the Census Bureau.

The Division of Employment Security is responsible for the administration of the unemployment insurance benefit and tax program. The Division collects tax contributions from employers and pays unemployment benefits to individuals who are determined eligible under the law.

The Missouri General Assembly is the state legislature of the State of Missouri and is composed of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate. The General Assembly is responsible for creating laws for governing the State of Missouri.

The Supreme Court of Missouri has been the state's highest court since 1820, when Missouri's first constitution was adopted. The Supreme Court's role is to ensure a stable and predictable system of justice by serving as the final arbiter of disputes involving the state's constitution and laws.
