Food and Nutrition BoardThe National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has a long history of examining the nation’s nutritional well-being and providing sound guidance to the public and policy makers about the implementation of nutrition and food sciences to improve human health. Established in 1940, the Food and Nutrition Board, within the Health and Medicine Division, studies issues of national and global importance on the safety and adequacy of the U.S. food supply; establishes principles and guidelines for good nutrition; and provides authoritative judgment on the relationships among food intake, nutrition, and health maintenance and disease prevention.
