Summary of the 1904 Olympics
The 1904 Olympics were held in St. Louis, Missouri. This was the first time that the games were held outside of Europe, and this was only the third modern Olympics. The Olympics was a part of, and largely overshadowed by, the World's Fair, also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The Exposition lasted 7 months from April 30 until December 1, 1904. The games were filled with record-breaking performances, shocking events, and layers of controversy. The current medal format of gold, silver, and bronze for first, second, and third place was introduced at the 1904 Olympics.
