Welcome

Title of Libguide with two children using technology

Welcome to the St. Louis County Library's Education Outreach LibGuide on Media Literacy for Children, Parents, and Teachers. This libguide is filled with information, library resources, and external resources to help guide your children or students through the confusing world of media in the age of AI. Learn what media literacy is, how to differentiate between fact and misinformation or persuasion, and discover the impact of AI on media.

According to the National Association for Media Literacy Education (namle.org/resources/media-literacy-defined/), media literacy is the “ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act using all forms of communication.” This can be confusing for children and challenging for the adults who want to help them. Is the information your child finds accurate? Did it come from a reliable source? Was AI used to manipulate an image or video? Being media literate in the 21st century is becoming increasingly challenging, but the resources in this libguide can help.
