Elements of a Myth

Characters: The people, animals, and sometimes objects involved in a story. Myths include characters such as gods and goddesses, heroes, creatures, monsters, and tricksters. Sometimes these types of characters may fall into more than one category, or archetype.

Climax: The big event or moment in a story, which is often the turning point in the story.

Conflict: The struggle between two forces in the story.

Metamorphosis: A moment of change for a character. The change can be physical, behavioral, psychological, or moral.

Phenomenon: A natural or cultural event or behavior. Myths are often used to explain phenomenons. 

Plot: The events in a story.

Quest: A journey the hero must take to achieve some goal.

Resolution: The outcome of the story.

Setting: Where the story takes place.
